Overall: An epic hybrid of dungeons and dragon questing with risk style board game combat! The high price does belie the intricate details of the pieces (though they are plastic) and the chips. The large box has a good sorting system so you have all the pieces in the right place etc.Review:Conquest of Nerath was recommended to me by a friend for a tactical game with a dungeons and dragons side questing element to it. There are some things to note straight off. One, this is a fun game with good replayability given the questing element and the highly tactical element laced with random event card mechanics. Two, this is a long game not for the feint of heart. Fianlly, you need at least one other person to play this with and some time on your hands and it has a maximum of 4 players (though you can have more than one person on a team). The premise is that you play as one of four factions in Nerath vying for power. Each faction has teritories they control in the beginning. All land teritories of the board are covered. They also have castles they control and some ships in the sea with some elementals possibly also in the sea too. The different units are footsoldiers, fighters, wizards, monsters, elemental, siege towers and of course, dragons! Foot soldiers, siege towers, castles, wizards, elementals and boats look the same for each faction (coloured different naturally). However each faction has their own look to dragons, fighters and monsters. Each unit has their own characteristics and units can be bought using a pool of money. A dragon will cost a lot more than a footsoldier so you need to buy wisely. You gain more money from having more teritories. Across the map are various dungeons which can be explored by only fighters or wizards. Within the dungeons are random monsters who usually have special abilities. However, defeat the monster(s) in a single dungeon and you gain a treasure which will give you a random special ability which will likely last the whole game. Players take turns to move units, resolve actions and battles (by use of attack dice) and then replace units after battles/questing and then buy new units. It takes time, and there are further rules I've glossed over, but as you can see, it's not straight forward. There is a random element to it with dice rolling. A single footsoldier could defeat a dragon, but then again, it's not likely. Also, each realm has a deck of power cards you draw from every turn which give you special abilities you can play at specific times which might mean a simple battle becomes far more complex. I've played this 4 times now and it's not something I've gotten bored of yet, though we've only managed to finish one game to a satisfactory ending (it can go on for some time). I'm glad I got it but it requires some planning into playing it and also some willing friends as well as time.

Loved this game but be aware the rules are not for the faint-hearted. You will need a few hours to get to grips with this game. After that enjoyment all the way!
